Short Tibet Tour
This tour is a great option to explore the cultural sights in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa and the surrounding valley within a limited timeframe. The trip begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, where we will rendezvous with our tour vehicle and drive across the Yarlung Tsangpo valley to Tsedang to marvel at the beautiful fortress-like monastery Yumbu Lakhang, believed to be Tibet’s oldest building. We’ll return to Lhasa to spend a few days visiting its most prominent points of interest – the Dalai Lama’s summer palace Norbulingka, Potala Palace, an amazing complex rich with Tibetan art and architecture perched at 3700 meters overlooking Lhasa valley, and Jorkhang temple, Tibetan Buddhism’s most holiest site. Perusing the uniquely Tibetan selection of handicrafts and sacred objects in the bazaar near Jorkhang is particularly interesting. After exploring the city, we’ll take a scenic drive through Lhasa valley to visit its most notable monasteries, including Sera “the court of the wild rose” where multitudes of roses adorn the monastery and surrounding courtyards, and Drepung, the world’s largest monastery, home to more than 10,000 resident monks.
