Chitwan National Park
Covering more than 900 square kilometers of subtropical jungle and alluvial floodplains in the southern lowlands of Nepal, known as the Terai, Chitwan National Park was named Nepal’s first National Park in 1973 and designated a world heritage site in 1984. This area is home to an incredibly rich and diverse array of plant and animal species. Said to be one of the world’s best tiger habitats, the fabled Bengal Tiger is one of the parks protected species. Other protected species include the one horned rhinoceros and Asian elephant. Sauraha, the region’s major commerce center located on the park’s northern outskirts, is the main entry point to the park, from where hotels, restaurants, and a full selection of tourist services are available. Accommodations are also available inside the park itself. A wide range of opportunities to explore the park can be arranged. Guided jungle walks, elephant or jeep safaris, or river rafting adventures are all at your disposal.
