Bardia National Park

Bardia National Park

Bardia National Park, encompassing 968 square kilometers of protected jungle and grasslands in the far northwest of Nepal’s Terai, is Nepal’s largest protected area. Perhaps due to lesser numbers of visitors due to its distance from Kathmandu, Bardia is a top destination for Bengal Tiger sightings. Other species include sloth bears, macaques, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, and over 250 species of birds. The Karnali river and its myriad tributaries provide an excellent habitat for mugger crocodiles, gharial, and the Gangetic dolphin. Accommodations in the park are in the style of luxury jungle lodges, catering to nature lovers with a full range of modern services. Nature walks, elephant or jeep safaris, or river rafting tours can all be arranged with knowledgeable local guides.
